Herbert E. Craig

Herbert E. Craig, a longtime resident of Middlefield, passed away March 28, 2013, at the age of 98.
Herbert was born in Warren, the son of Herbert E. and Ruth Craig. He started a portable feed grinding business in Huntsburg, then moved the business to Middlefield in 1947 and called it Farmers Portable Service, that he sold when he retired.
He and his wife, Lois, were married for 71 years. They had five children and lost a son, Bobby, in 1964. Herbert believed in God, had strong family values and worked hard. He enjoyed life and did everything he wanted to do. He and Lois took the family on camping trips when the children were young. After he retired, he and Lois traveled to Alaska and Hawaii, and they spent their winters in Florida. He was a longtime member of Kiwanis and the First United Methodist Church in Middlefield. Herbert enjoyed Methodist Men's. He was on the Middlefield City Council and a member of the Chamber of Commerce. He was also a 4-H leader, and in the 1940s and 1950s, he was a Boy Scout master.
Herbert is survived by his wife, Lois; son, Herbert E. Craig III of Nebraska; daughters, Mary (Donald) Stepelton, the Rev. Peggy Hostetler and Chick Treciak and Ann Seliskar, all of Florida; grandchildren, Eric Hostetler of Florida, Angela (John) Reilly of Illinois, Stephanie (John) Panagis of New York and Suzanne (fiance Adam Axel) Seliskar of New Jersey; nephews, Clifford Craig of Ohio, the Rev. Robert McMillen of Indiana and William McMillen of Texas; and niece, Linda Liptak of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert E. and Ruth Craig; brother, Thomas B. Craig; and son, Robert T. Craig.
The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at The First United Methodist Church of Middlefield, 14999 S. State Ave., with the Rev. Edward Peterson officiating.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Russell Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St. (Route 87), Middlefield. Burial will be in Middlefield Cemetery.
