Jessie R. Sass, 86, of Burton, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Briar Hill Health Care Residence in Middlefield.
Born July 30, 1927 in Punxsutawney, Pa., to Darrell and Ruth (Elliot) Wholaver, Jessie was married to Andrew Sass from Sept. 21, 1951, until his death on Sept, 11, 1990.
She was a cook at Briar Hill Health Care Residence for 19 years, retiring in 1989. Her activities included reading, crossword puzzles and baking, and she was an Avon representative for many years.
Jessie was a member of the Shrine of Mariapoch in Troy Township.
She will be missed by her children, William A. Wholavar of Eastlake, David Sass, Rick Sass of Burton, Mark (Amy) Sass of Chardon and Andrew (Barbara) Sass of Burton; grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Giavonni, Jessica and Derek, Jennifer, Ruth (Wholaver) Morr, Frank Whoalver and Kenneth Wholaver; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, Brady and Brooke Morr, Frank Jr. and Dylan Wholaver, and Kenneth Jr. and Rileigh Friel; and siblings, William, Morton, John and Lawrence Wholaver, all of Pennsylvania.
Jessie was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and seven siblings.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Russell Funeral Service, 15670 West High St. (Route 87), Middlefield.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday with a Parastis Service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
There will be a Memorial Divine Liturgy at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the Byzantine Catholic Fellowship Chapel, 17486 Mumford Road, Burton. Burial will be at Knollwood Cemetery in Mayfield Heights.
