Funeral services for John Kovaly, 86, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 250 Bowhall Road, Painesville with the Rev. Paul D. Sundbom officiating. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
A Painesville resident for most of his life, John was born to John and Anna (nee Koval) Kovaly in Fairport Harbor. He passed away on Oct. 11, 2013, at the Lantern of Madison.
John attended Fairport Harding High School and retired as a pipefitter for the former Uniroyal Corp. in Painesville.
John served in the armed forces. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church,
Slovenian Club and V.F.W
. Post 7754 both of Fairport Harbor. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge
549 in Painesville.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Wilma (Davey) Kovaly, whom he married in 1981;
daughter, Vicki (Don) Snowbrick of Painesville, son, David (Nancy) Cunningham of Pa.; nine grandchildren,
Melissa (David) Vogrin, Jessica (John) Jones, Amanda (Nathan) Wolfe, Jason (Taffe) Cunningham, Ian Cunningham, Keith Cunninghan, Sarah Cunningham, Kevin Grierson, Dawn (Roy) Mathes; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris (Tenkku) Kovaly in 1979; parents; brother, Joseph Koval, sisters, Margaret Jewell and Ann Rakowich.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Painesville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Pre-school or to the Memorial Fund of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
