John "Phil" Schafer(1930-2014)

John "Phil" Schafer passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014.
Phil was born Feb. 18, 1930, to Russell E. Schafer and Lorena Applegarth-Schafer.
He was a well-known figure in Lake County, founding Phil Schafer Excavating and completing his work career with the Lake County Water Department. In 1998, he retired to Kingston, Tennessee, where he spent his final days.
On May 28, 1949, Mr. Schafer married the late Nancy Ann Seacrist. Together they had six children, Cynthia D. Hull, Debra L. Jackson, Philip R. Schafer, Jody A. Hersey, Jeffrey C. Schafer and the late Nancy S. Schafer-Yates. Phil leaves 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren (three deceased); and his life-long companion, Sarah Hartzell.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor. Interment will follow at Mentor Cemetery.
