Joseph Andrew Helt, 92, of Claridon Township, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at his residence.
Born Feb. 10, 1922, in Uniontown, Pa., to John and Susan (Jones) Helt, he served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1944.
After working 34 years at Tow Motor (Caterpillar), he retired in 1978.
Mr. Helt had been a resident of the area since 1972, and enjoyed gardening, carpentry and watching John Wayne movies. He loved spending time with the grandchildren and his beloved pet, Rusty.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Sophia; children, Timothy (Joyce) Helt of Yorktown, Va., and Stephanie (James) Mlinar of Huntsburg; five grandchildren, Christina (Brian) Zeigler, James (Becky) Helt, Janis Mlinar, Michelle (Charlie) Soltis and Joseph (Jamie) Mlinar; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Helt was preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the Russell Funeral Service, 15670 West High St. (Route 87), Middlefield. Burial will be in East Claridon Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
