Marian Elizabeth (Sharp) Hart, 99, of Painesville, passed away March 6, 2013, 13 hours before her 100th birthday. Marian died peacefully at TriPoint Medical Center, surrounded by several members of her family.
Born March 7, 1913, in Cleveland, she was division unit manager at Lake East Hospital in Painesville for 17 years, retiring in 1980.
Marian was truly the matriarch of the family. She was such a sweet, loving and caring lady. A graduate of Cleveland Heights High School, Marian had attended Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich., before marrying and raising her three daughters. She enjoyed family activities, including boating and gardening in her earlier years. She was a longtime member of Painesville United Methodist Church. Watching baseball, golf and football on television in her later years was one of her favorite pastimes, as well as following the activities of her family. She forever displayed a positive outlook on life, shared a special bond of devotion with her brother, Bob, and was the best mother anyone could hope for. Marian was a strong individual who never complained. To know her was to love her.
Marian is survived by her three daughters, Barbara (Carter) Hadley of Woodstock, Ga., Louise (William) Bennet of Concord and Christine (Don) Howlett of Painesville; grandchildren, Susan (Ted) Olsen of Marietta, Ga., Andrea (Keith) Henderson of Cartersville, Ga., Rex (Penny Ward) Hadley of Hampton Bays, N.Y., Dana (Vince) Fettinger of Roswell, Ga., Victoria (Mark) Toflinski of Painesville and Katie (Dan) Jenkins of Painesville. Marian is also survived by her brother, Robert (Mary) Sharp of Baltimore, Md.; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gillard C. Hart, who died in 1960; and great-granddaughter, Jessica Olsen.
Visitation will be at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville, from 1 to 3 and 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 10. Funeral services will begin at 7 pm. The Rev. Gerald Kalb of Painesville United Methodist will officiate the services.
Private burial services will be Monday at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the ICU unit of TriPoint Medical Center for their care and compassion.
