Otmer V. Shepherd(1930-2012)

Memorial services for Otmer V. Shepherd, age 81, will be 8 p.m. Monday at the Mulqueeny-Spear Funeral Home, 312 Eagle St., Fairport Harbor, where friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m.
The son of Israiel and Mary (Jones) Shepherd was born June 29, 1930, in Willoughby and had been a Fairport Harbor resident since 1930.
He passed away March 20, 2012, at Heartland of Mentor.
He attended Harvey High School, where he boxed.
Mr. Shepherd served as an officer in the Merchant Marines and as an engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 31 years.
After his retirement, he was employed as a security guard for Pinkerton Company.
Otmer enjoyed playing pool and golfing. He was mechanically inclined and could fix about anything, he dabbled in antiques. He volunteered his labors to build the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Painesville Township, where he helped with Youth Groups and Sunday school. He and his father purchased cottages in Painesville Township, which they renovated to all season homes for re-sale.
Survivors are his son, Otmer Joseph Shepherd of Fairport Harbor; and grandsons, Michael M. Rogers and Otmer Jaidon Shepherd.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Curtis) Shepherd; parents; brothers, William Dale and Sonny J. Shepherd; and sister, Cleata Howard.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Alexander Harper Cemetery in Unionville.
