Philip Houghkerk, 91, of Titusville, Fla., passed away peacefully Sept. 19, 2013.
He joined his beloved wife, Jeanne, who died in 2009.
Phil was born in Painesville, graduated from Harvey High School and was employed at Diamond Alkali for 32 years before moving to Florida in 1973 to be closer to his daughter's family.
He served in the U.S. Army
during World War II
and was a lifetime member of the DAV. In 2010 he was on the inaugural trip of Space Coast Honor Flight's visit to the Washington, D.C., war memorials.
A Titusville resident since 2002, he attended Park Avenue Baptist Church and was a member of the Genealogical Society of North Brevard.
He is survived by his daughter, Carol (Terry) Eilers of Titusville; three grandchildren, Wendy (Michael) Timms of Hoschton, Ga., Melissa (Tom) Feller of Greenville, N.C., and Mark Eilers of Orlando, Fla.; four great-granddaughters, Abigail and Emma Timms and Chloe and Celeste Feller; and several nieces and nephews.
His brother, Howard, preceded him in death in 1990.
A Celebration of Life will be at Oct. 19, 2013, in Titusville, Fla.
Private interment will be at Bushnell National Cemetery.
