R. Denison Stewart, M.D., 72, of Aurora, husband of the late Judith (White) Stewart, died Feb. 7, 2014, at his home.
Born Dec. 25, 1941, in Sterling, Ill., to the late Donald B. and Elinore (nee Denison) Stewart, he was an orthopedic surgeon at UH Geauga Medical Center.
Dr. Stewart graduated from Knox College in Illinois, and then graduated from Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Stewart did his orthopedic residency at the Cleveland Clinic, and then joined the U.S. Army
as a major during the Vietnam War
Upon returning from the Army, Dr. Stewart returned to Cleveland and joined his orthopedic practice in Chardon. He served the Geauga County community for more than 30 years.
Survivors are his children, Matthew Ian Stewart, Donald Walter (Celeste) Stewart and Sarah Lynn (Michael McIntyre) Stewart, all of Denver, Colo., and Meredith Stewart (Seth) Reimer of Shaker Heights; his former wife and the mother of his children, Pamela (nee Gorske) DeLong of Oberlin; and grandchildren, Lillian, Thayer and Nolan Sindelar, Lauren and Taylor Stewart and Ethan, Wyatt and Quinn Reimer. He is also survived by his brothers, Donald G. (Marianthe) Stewart of Sarasota, Fla., and Colin (Sharon) Stewart of Sparta, N.J.
In addition to his wife Judith, Dr. Stewart was preceded in death by his daughter, Anna Denise.
The family will host a gathering from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at The Club at Walden, 585 Country Club Lane, Aurora, 330-995-3111.
