Richard F. Heil died on Sept. 23, 2013.
He was born Feb. 23, 1925, and grew up in Rocky River.
He lettered in football, track and wrestling. He served in WWII
enlisting in the Navy at 17 and spent three years as a gunner on merchant vessels.
He was employed for 40 years in industrial sales by DoAll, Brown and Sharpe, Dessil Tool, and Pivot Punch Corp.
He and his wife, Carolyn, who died in 2004, were married 54 years. They raised a son, Dick (Lilly), and two daughters, Jane (Bill Ott) and Cathy (Allen Griffin) in Lakewood.
He will be remembered for his kindness, even temper, and sense of humor. He would often remind a misbehaving child ""be good, even if it hurts.""
He has seven grandchildren, Lauren Heil Link (Mike), Chrissy Heil, William Ott, Jonathan Ott (Ana), Jennifer, Allison and Emily Griffin; and three great-grandchildren, Alexander, Carolyn and Madelyn Ott.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at Breckenridge Village at Lyons Chapel, 36859 Ridge Road in Willoughby.
