Funeral services for Rocco Sarli, 85, of Mentor, will be 11 a.m. Friday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), Mentor.
Mr. Sarli passed away Monday, May 26, 2014, at Lake Health West Medical Center in Willoughby.
He was born July 23, 1928, in Cleveland, he had been a Lake County resident for the past 23 years, living in Mentor.
He was a U.S. Army
veteran of World War II
, stationed in Nagasaki after the bombing. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and loved fishing, gardening and casino gambling.
Mr. Sarli was a 41-year employee of the city of Cleveland Heights, serving as superintendent of streets and in the sewer department, retiring in 1993. He also worked at the Cuyahoga County Airport in Richmond Heights and for 16 years at Sears, Roebuck in Mentor.
He was the loving father of Russell C. Sarli of Lyndhurst and Rocco C. (Kathleen A. nee: Cameron) Sarli of Mentor; cherished grandfather of Christopher R. and Matthew J.; brother of Val Sarli and Michael Sarli; brother-in-law of Clara Sarli and Jeannette Sarli; and uncle of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose Marie (nee Kirner) Sarli; daughter-in-law, Nadine (nee Lyons); parents, Joseph and Ann Sarli; brothers, Dan "Dokes" Sarli, Sam Sarli and Joseph "Pepe" Sarli; and sister-in-law, Donna Jean.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.www.MCVfuneralhomes.com
