Stanley "Stub" Wells, age 92, of East Claridon, passed away July 3, 2014, at UH Geauga Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 11, 1922, in Claridon to Vern and Flossie (nee Loveland) Wells, he had been a lifelong area resident.
Following graduation from Huntsburg High School, Stub joined the Navy. He served as a Signalman on the USS Terry in the Pacific during World War II
. After the war he returned home to marry his beloved Connie Adams. They were married for 64 years until her passing in 2010.
Stub worked for Snapout Forms for 25 years and after his retirement he worked as a groundskeeper with Pleasant Hills Golf Course for 25 years. He loved working at Pleasant Hills and playing in the Thursday Night Golf League. He was an avid golfer and had the distinction of shooting a hole-in-one twice in his life. He enjoyed gardening and driving his lawn tractor.
Stub was a good friend, loving husband, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, Don and Nyle Wells; sister, Doris Wells; and son-in-law, Gary Fish.
Survivors include his daughter, Bonnie Fish of Burton; son, John (Liz) of Burlington, N.C.; grandsons, Brian (Denise) Fish of Middlefield, Jeffrey (Jen) Fish of Parkman and Matthew Wells of Burlington, N.C.; granddaughter, Erin (Jay) Wells-Early of Charlotte, N.C.; great-grandsons, Zachary and Alex Fish, Levi Wells and Wells Early; and great-granddaughter, Peyton Fish.
The family would like to take this opportunity to express their gratitude for the caregivers at UH Geauga Regional Medical Center, Blossom Hill Care Center and to the physicians and staff that have taken care of Stub for many years. To cherished friends and family who sent cards, food, prayers and well wishes, thank you for your love.
Memorial gathering will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014, at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street (500' south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) Chardon. Private family burial has taken place.
