Valajean Pearl "Jean" (Campbell) Casto, 76, of Painesville, passed away peacefully Jan. 22, 2014.
Mrs. Casto was born Oct. 3, 1937, in Simpson, W. Va., to Howard Todd and Opal (Bennett) Campbell.
Valajean married her late husband, James Homer in 1956, and moved to Painesville where they raised six children. She enjoyed shopping, spending time with family and friends (especially her nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren), and taking care of her dogs, Sophia and Mitsy.
Survivors include her children, David (Patty) Casto, Joyce (Nick) Merlini, Jeffrey Casto, Wanda (Larry) Barnett, Kathryn (Edward Bartol) Casto and Jacqueline (Keith) Varsey; grandchildren, Tony Barnett, Shaun (Shannon) Casto, Sarah (Jeremy) Bukky, Jordan Casto, Bethany Casto, Mandy (Chuck) Coster, Morgan Merlini, Mallory Merlini, Tyler Varsey and Brandon Varsey; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Cheyenne, Stephanie, Isabella, Cole, Gabriella and Camron; brothers, Carl, Chuck, Jerry and Mike; sisters, Gladys and Sharon; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her longtime companion, Tom Seiffert, whom she loved spending time with.
Valajean was preceded in death by her sister, Freda Nicholson from Tennessee, who passed away the same day. It gives the family comfort that they are together. She was also preceded by her husband, James Homer Casto; parents, Howard Todd and Opal (Bennett) Campbell; brothers, Howard and Paul Campbell; and sister, Dottie Hullett.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Painesville.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home.
