William "Bill" Burns, 86, of Breckenridge Village in Willoughby, went to his heavenly home Aug. 31, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 30, 1927, in Cleveland, the son of Elsie (nee Clapham) Burns, and married his high school sweetheart, Connie Burckel, on Nov. 26, 1949.
He served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II
, which fueled his love of flying and amazed his family when he actually achieved his pilot's license.
After moving to Chardon in 1968, Bill and Connie started Western Reserve Office Supply (still family owned and operated by their daughter), the Islands, an exercise, nutrition and tanning center, and Bil-Dene Enterprises, a property management company.
Bill will always be remembered by his family and friends as the life of the party, telling jokes and always so generous with compliments. His avocation was his love of anything under construction. Whether it was house additions, porch renovations or indoor pool construction, he always looked forward to the next challenge, doing all the design work himself. While still in Chardon, Bill and Connie, both avid bridge players, established the Chardon Hilltoppers Duplicate Bridge Group, which is still a very active club today.
Loving memories of Bill will be carried on by his wife, Connie; three "Darling Daughters", Pamela (Eric) West of Chardon, Trish (Jack) Ricchiuto of Twinsburg and Carole (Mark) Wright of Westerville. In addition, his five grandsons of which he was so proud, Matthew (fiance Madeline Grady) West, John (fiance Renata Ashford) Ricchiuto, Tom Ricchiuto, Mark David Wright and John Michael Wright.
Celebration of Life will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at Breckenridge Village Lyons Chapel, 36855 Ridge Road, Willoughby.
