Gabrielle Hixenbaugh Obituary
Born Nov. 20, 1944, in Charleroi Pa., Gae passed away May 9, 2011, in Willoughby. She had been an Eastlake resident for 38 years.
In 2004, she retired after 25 years as a school bus driver for Willoughby-Eastlake Schools.
Gae loved her family, especially her grandchildren and made sure that family holiday traditions were passed on to them. She volunteered for the P.T.A. in the Willoughby-Eastlake Schools and she and her husband Cecil spent many happy years at Marriage Encounter. Gae enjoyed watching football on TV and was a Steelers fan.
Survivors are her son, Christopher (Laura); daughters, Victoria (Garry) Short, Kathee Hixenbaugh and Mary (Olen) Steelman; and grandchildren, John Hixenbaugh, Amanda, Kayla, Jason and Donnie Short and Olivia Steelman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Jakubs-Danaher Funeral Home, 36000 Lake Shore Blvd., Eastlake. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.

My sincerest condolences to the Hixenbaugh family... Mrs. Hix was the one of the greatest ladies I have ever known. She was my middle school bus driver. Being the first student on the bus and the last student off for 4 or 5 years, I got to talk to her a lot and she was a riot!! This really breaks my heart to hear she has gone so soon... May she rest in peace and I hope she is still wise cracking her jokes up above.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of "Mrs. H" driving the school bus in elementary school. I actually bumped into a few years back and I was surprised that she remembered me. She was such a sweet and kind lady.

We were so blessed to have known Cecil and Gae. We will always remember her undonditional love and joyful spirit. We still have a magnet on our fridge that she & Cecil gave us at one of the many M.E. retreats. Our hearts go out to the family and friends with deepest sympathy and you are in our prayers. Im so sorry to hear of her passing, she was a great lady a terrific mom...I truly bleieve that God put her on this earth as an Angel in human form, she truly was an angel. May God continue to watch over all of you and I will keep you in my prayers of your loss. She loved dressing up as a nun on Halloween at work, on bus #5 and # 29...Such a fantastic lady..

Gae belonged to the "Pink Lemonade Breast Cancer Support Group" and we will miss her so much. We had a lot of fun and we will keep those memories with us. My thoughts and prayers are with the family .

I am so blessed to have been a "neighbor" of Gae's and Mary, Olen and Olivia. Know that you are all in my prayers. She will be missed by many, including Murphy!! Who will yell over the fence to him :(

Your Mom and I were in La Leche League together back in the seventies. Later, my kids rode her bus to school. I used to see her at craft shows with your Dad sometimes. She was a wonderful woman and a lot of fun to be with.

My children called her Mrs. H and she was the greatest bus driver that WE schools had. She truely loved the kids and I will always remember her for taking such good care of my children. My prayers are with your family. God bless

We were co-workers at Willoughby-Eastlake Transportation who shared a love for a certain singer (N.D.). "Blue Jeans", Gae. I pray for Gae and her Family at this difficult time.

Your family is in my prayers. Gae was a wonderful person. She was my bus driver in High School and as a sub driver I drove her bus when she was unable. She will always have a special place in my heart.

To my old neighbor when she was on #29...would clean off her winshield on her bus during the winter because I would get there before her in the mornings.....May your memories comfort you...
