Robert Blevins Obituary

Robert Leighton Blevins of Jefferson, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, with his family and friends by his side.
He was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Knoxville, Tenn., the son of Robert Prentiss Blevins and Harriet (Hattie) Tindall Blevins.
In December 1942, he joined the Navy (Seabees) and served 18 months in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged Nov. 7, 1945. During this time, he received the American Defense Service Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Coming to Geneva from Knoxville in 1957, he was employed for 20 years at Spring Wood Products, retired from Reliance Electric (Ivanhoe Road) Cleveland in 1982.
After retiring, he moved to Jefferson, where he was known as "Pizza Bob" as he enjoyed delivering pizza in Jefferson during his retirement. A 53-year member of the Geneva Sunday evening AA group, he attended many meetings in northeast Ohio and was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Rose (Walker) Blevins, whom he married in July 1959 and who passed away Oct. 26, 1986; parents; and two sisters, Nadine (Blevins) Whaley and Mary Rebecca (Blevins) Cupp.
Survivors include his wife, Esther Hatten (Buchan) Blevins, whom he married in March 1989; two daughters, Barbara Jean Blevins of Ashville, N.C., and Laura Lynn Blevins of Ashtabula; two sons, Robert L. Blevins Jr. of Knoxville Tenn., and Bruce Leighton Blevins of Winter Springs, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Jefferson United Methodist Church, 125 E. Jefferson St. Jefferson. The Rev. Meredith Coleman will officiate. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery, where Geneva Post 6846 will provide full military honors.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson Unit of the Salvation Army, Hospice of the Western Reserve, or the Jefferson United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the calling hours and service.
The Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson is handled the arrangements.

Esther and family. So sorry for your loss. Bob and my late husband Jim had a lot in common. Geneva Sunday was Jim's homegroup and Bob was a big part of Jim's life for many years
