Betty M. Boyce

1932 - 2011

Betty M. Boyce, age 79, of Concord Township since 1996, passed away Sept. 15, 2011, at TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township.
Born March 13, 1932, in Memphis, Tenn., she had lived in Memphis, then moved to Painesville in 1953, before moving to Concord Township in 1996.
She was a member of the choir at St. John Baptist Church, where she also served on the Usher Board. She loved gardening, flowers and nature.
Mrs. Boyce was employed at one time at Hellriegel's Inn as a waitress and at IRC Fibers in production.
Survivors are her husband, David, whom she married Feb. 19, 1951, and courted for five years prior to that. They were together for 65 years. She is also survived by her sons, David Jr. of Concord Township, Lamart of Temple, Texas, and Paul of Painesville; grandson, Lamart Boyce II, who is stationed on the U.S. Aircraft Carrier 77 George Bush; and brother, James (Mamie) Farrell of Chicago, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Mabel (Starks) Sanderson; and stepmother, Henrietta Jefferson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Avenue (opposite Lake Erie College), Painesville.
Funeral services will be noon Friday at New Hope Baptist Church, 428 W. Jackson St., Painesville. The Rev. Vincent R. Miller will officiate. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery in Painesville.
