Time is supposed to heal all wounds and it does help to lessen the pain, but in the heart of a loved one memory lives forever.

Dear Monique,

I worked with your mom at Rite Aid and have been trying to find her to write to her for quite some time. I happened across your husband's obituary and had to write to you. I'm so sorry for your loss and hope that God's love has helped to soothe your heart's pain.

I'm writing this for my husband who served with you on your last tour. He was and still is deeply affected by your death. He dreams about you and misses you dearly. I can imagine what a great person and soldier you were to have affected him so. I pray for you and those who loved you that you left behind. He hopes to see you in Heaven someday and your endearing smile he talks about.

to salute you with permission let me say

Words are terribly inadequate - we cannot imagine the sorrow that you are feeling but our prayer is that you will feel the great, loving arms of the Lord holding you and giving you comfort through this difficult time. We feel a great deal of pride just being part of Mike's extended family and wish that we could be there to give you all support and heartfelt hugs. I only knew him through Tom but I know what the family is going through. My prays go out to the family. If you ever need to talk please feel free to contact me ([email protected]). Its only been 5 months since Tom's death but I know those days you are going through now. God is with you and will help you through this. Just give it up to him and let him carry your burden until you are ready to deal with it. I know how hard it is now but I am telling you it gets a little easier day by day and sometimes minute by minute. I am sure you are that point now. Then it becomes hour by hour and so on.

I didn't know Maj Evarts very well and have only been at the unit (256th HHD) about a 1 1/2.. but from what I did know and saw him during drills he always did everything with a smile on his face and had everyone around him laughing. Always lending a helping hand... The best of the best! So proud to have gotten thechance to even be in his presence. He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace and your family know that as days go on and years there will always be a special angel watching over you!!

January 26, 2011

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of you. My sister Cindy Johnson called and told me the news about Mike. Words cannot express the devastation and sorrow I feel for your loss. My mother and Ray (Evarts) told me often of the kindness they received from Mike and Monique. Their kindness holds a very special place in my heart. I also have an unspoken bond with Major Mike that Bill, Marylyn & I discussed in my mother's home after her funeral in February 2009. Mike and I are brothers in arms as veterans in the service of our country. His passing brings me an emptiness that only the Lord can help me deal with. I am however an eternal optimist. Major Mike is being blessed with all the blessings he deserves in his new deployment to the army of the Lord. I am left with the hope and faith that in my future deployment I will be blessed to stand shoulder to shoulder with my brother Mike in the service of the Lord. God bless and comfort your family and bring you peace in your time of need. With our love, Steve and Marilyn Strate and family

I will always remember Mike as a good-hearted soul. We played football together in high school and he always tried his best at whatever he did. I was also impressed that he chose to join the Armed Forces and knew that he would be a force to reckon with while also having compassion for his fellow man, woman and child. Hearing of his death in Iraq was very hard to take, but his ultimate sacrifice has already and will utlimately benefit many even if it doesn't feel like it now. My deepest sympathies go out to his wife and children and the rest of his family and friends. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

It's been a long time since I babysat Michael, Dan and Amy (Paisley) but the memories have never left my mind and now they are moreso pouring in. From reading and seeing all of the nice pictures and things people have said on the internet, Michael was a happy, joyful and mischievious person to be around in his adult life as well as the childhood I so remember. I am praying for the family, friends, and fellow troops of Michael and this great country. He did not die in vain. He will never be forgotten. The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms, MAJ Michael Evarts. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Mike. And to Mike it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while deployed with the U.S. Army in Iraq. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Mike, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,341 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Mike’s family and loved ones.

Dear Evarts family,

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

I have such great memories of Mike. I always enjoyed seeing him over the years. He would make you feel like he was truly happy to see you, he always had such a warm and confident smile. We wrestled together in middle school. Fortunately for me, he had mercy on me. He could destroy me so easily, but he would coach and teach me as we wrestled. We would talk and joke during practice. When the coach would yell at him for not trying, he'd slam me to the mat, pin me and then help me up:) He was great.

It is such a loss for this world, Mike will be missed. He left this world a better place, he helped and protected us all. You should be proud of his service and sacrifice. We live comfortably in the US, thanks to him.

I wish you a healthy healing process.

The price, Major Michael Evarts and his family have paid for this country and for freedom, Will Not Be Forgotten. Please know how Deeply Sorry I am to learn of the loss of this Brave Soldier.
There will Never Be Enough Ways to Humbly Thank our Heroes for their Sacrifices, my brother among them, killed in action in Vietnam in 1967.

May you find Peace in knowing the love and memories you have, will remain in your heart forever and that this Grateful Country Will Not Forget Major Evart's Sacrifice.

"Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." ~ John 15:13 ~

You are in my thoughts and prayers

Dearest Evarts family,
I am the wife of Jerry Chester who is serving with the 256th. We sat together at the Nov. dining out for Sgt. Wakeman.
I am thinking of all of you every day. I am so very, very sorry. Jerry is one of many planning on speaking as the unit has a service this Friday, for Mike. Should you want to communicate anything- [email protected]
They are all thinking of your entire family.
With love
