Albertine Hoover Obituary

Albertine A. "AL" Hoover, 93, Richmond Heights, passed away May 17, 2011, at her home.
She was born Aug. 27, 1917, in Cleveland.
Albertine A. Hoover had lived in Richmond Heights since 1959, and was actively involved in community service her entire life. Albertine became a school board member for Richmond Heights Local Schools in the early 1960s. During this time, she was elected by her fellow board members and became the first female school board president in the state of Ohio.
Albertine actively participated in helping community groups such as Boosters Club with fund raising, Kiwanis Home Days. She had a longtime involvement with the Parent-Teacher Association, and was presiding judge for voting precincts in Richmond Heights.
Once her children were older, she returned to work at Hall Chemical Company as a bookkeeper/administrative assistant. She continued throughout her life as an instrumental member of the community, serving as secretary of the Richmond Heights Garden Club as recently as the past three years, Richmond Heights American Legion Post 775 Ladies Auxiliary, and membership chair of the Richmond Heights Senior Club. She was a volunteer for Ohio Reads at Richmond Heights Elementary School in her late 80s.
Albertine was recognized for her lifetime efforts when she was named a finalist for Richmond Heights Citizen of the Year in 2008. She was a member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church (formerly St. Felicitas) in Euclid. Albertine was always focused on unselfishly working to make the school and community she loved a better place for all.
She passed peacefully, at the age of 93, in her home with her family present and in the presence of the Lord. She was loved by her family and many friends who will greatly miss her.
Survivors are her children, Jackie Tuckey, Jim (Denise) Hoover, Janice Hoover and Jerry (Lori) Hoover; grandchildren, Travis and Jessie Tuckey, Tim (Kelly) Hoover, Rachael (Joe) Potter, Jason (Julie) Hoover, Ryan Hoover and Aaron Hoover; great-grandchildren, Tyler Tuckey, Grady Hoover, Ava Hoover and Addison Hoover; and sister, Helen Dagenbach.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hoover.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2011, at St. John of the Cross Church, 140 Richmond Road, Euclid.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Brickman Bros. Funeral Home, 37433 Euclid Ave., Willoughby.
Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 E. 185 St., Cleveland, OH 44119.

I remember the good times, especially the big holiday dinners when the whole family would get together and we had grown-ups and kids everywhere. Christmas with the whole family was always such a special time for Al. Children, grandchildren and then great grandchildren were her priority and she loved to talk about all your accomplishments. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. Thom & Kathy
