Memorial services for Charles J. Abbott, age 87, will be 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville.
Born Jan. 7, 1924, in Cleveland, Mr. Abbott was a resident of Painesville since 1950.
He passed away March 18, 2011, at home with his family by his side.
He was a decorated U.S.
World War II
, receiving the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with two
and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star.
Charlie loved playing golf and his dog, Little Bit.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Funnell) Abbott; children, Gary (Debra), Donald, Barbara (Jerry) Osborne, William (Maria) and Robert (Debbie Urban); grandchildren, Jason, Melissa, Brian, Amanda, and Myalee; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Margaret (Gedeon) Abbott; sister, Rena; and brothers, John, Herbert, and Cornelius.
Friends will be received 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Private interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery.
The family encourages contributions in Mr. Abbott's memory be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 5786 Heisley Road, Mentor, OH 44060.
