Donald R. Fairbanks Obituary
Donald R. Fairbanks, 84, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at his residence in Mobile, Ala.
Born Dec. 4, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pa., he had lived in Mentor for 40 years before moving to Mobile seven years ago.
Mr. Fairbanks was a banker. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served his country proudly in the Korean War and a longtime member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Mentor. A gentle man, he loved animals, nature and always rooted for the underdog.
Survivors are his children, Holly Susan (James I.) Johnson of Mobile, Ala., and Dr. Donald J. (Lisa Hope) Fairbanks of Sunbury; grandchildren, Jonathan A., Taylor M., Benjamin J., Bethany H. Fairbanks and Danny Johnson; nieces and nephews, Sandy Maloney, Susan Ichikawa, Randy Csanyi, Michael Fairbanks, Gary Rose, Robert Rose, Russell Fairbanks, Rob Fairbanks, Diane Girda and Donna Ely; great-nieces and great-nephews, Rhonda Maloney, Frank Maloney, Lisa Barr, Cindy Ichikawa, Justin Rose and Crystal Rose; cousin, William C. Behm; and brother-in-law, Robert C. Rose Sr.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Louise DeRighter Fairbanks; parents, Russell and Blanche Fairbanks; brother, Robert Roy Fairbanks; sister, LaVerne Fairbanks Csanyi; nieces, Karen Dyer and Barbara Miller; and cousin, Jimmy Behm.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 7575 Bellflower Rd., Mentor.
The family will receive from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery in Northfield.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Fairbanks to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), 424 E. 92nd St., New York, NY 10128-6804.
