Harry Donald Schad Obituary
Harry Donald Schad, 85, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, passed away on Sept. 15, 2013, at his home in Westlake Village, Calif. after a sudden and ultimately quick battle with cancer.
He was born on Sept. 16, 1927, in Cleveland, to William Morton Schad and Lillian Anne Van Bogart Schad.
Harry was born into a loving home, and like many of his generation, he became as successful in life as he was in business. Harry grew up in Ohio, and after graduating from Willoughby Union High School, he joined the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1947. He attended Fenn College of Engineering in Cleveland on the GI Bill and graduated in 1948, with a degree in Structural Engineering.
Harry married June Marie Rupp in 1948, in Willoughby. They were happily married until the time of June's death in 2002. They moved to Southern California in 1950, where Harry began his business career in engineering, construction, real estate, and banking. He enjoyed golfing, painting, reading, and almost any type of problem solving. Harry was a lifelong Rotarian and recently started the Oakheart Music Festival.
Harry was remarried to Paloma Reyes in 2003. They were a happy and energetic couple, together for many wonderful years. He and Paloma enjoyed spending time with their families and helping those in need. For the past eight years, he and Paloma have taken children on shopping sprees for Christmas presents.
Harry is preceded in death by his wife, June Rupp Schad; his parents; his brother, Bill; and his only child, Leslie (Isaac) Schad Pape.
Harry is survived by his spouse, Paloma Schad of Westlake Village, Calif.; his son-in-law, Isaac (Pam) Pape of Houston, Texas; his step-daughter, Samhira Reyes of Ventura, Calif.; his grandchildren, Aaron (Ashlee) Pape of Lindale, Texas (children, McKellee and Zoee), Andrew (Ashley) Pape of McAllen, Texas (children, Barrett, Addison, Bowen, and Amelia), and Autumn Pape of Dallas, Texas; his sister, Arlene (Edward) Gall and Carol (Richard) Treffney; and his brother-in-law, Jose Cerrillo of Ojai, Calif.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 5801 Kanan Road, Westlake Village, Calif. at noon on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013.
Flowers may be sent to Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village, Calif.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Meals on Wheels - Westlake Village, Agoura Hills and Oak Park, Calif. (805) 370-4295.
The family would like to offer special thanks to: Buena Vista Hospice, Conrad and Sandra de Santiago, Maria Barajas, Nelli Torres, and Sergio Juarez as well as all of our family and friends for their continued love, support, and prayers for Harry during his illness.
