James Ronald "Jim" Nozar Obituary
James "Jim" Ronald Nozar, 68, passed away July 19, 2014, at his home in Charlotte, surrounded by his family, after a courageous eight month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jim was born March 5, 1946, in Cleveland, to the late James Joseph Nozar and Josephine Novy Nozar. He grew up in Chardon, graduating from Chardon High School in 1964. He received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Michigan State University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He received a Masters Degree in Finance from Cleveland State University.
Following graduation from college, Jim married his college sweetheart, Toni Megas Nozar, on September 21, 1968. He is a Vietnam veteran, serving his country in the Army's First Infantry Division from 1969 to 1972.
Jim and Toni have resided in Charlotte since 1976. Jim recently retired from Morgan Stanley, where he was a Financial Consultant for over 30 years. He was a great storyteller and loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with his four grandchildren - especially during the annual family beach vacation. He also enjoyed gardening, traveling, following the Cleveland Indians, and going on hunting trips with his buddies.
In addition to his wife Toni, Jim is survived by his three children, Kristin Lewis and her husband Allen of Charlotte, Kerry Groudle and her husband Jamie of Charlotte, and James T. Nozar and his husband Adam Unger of Washington, DC; and his four grandchildren, Andrew Lewis, Elizabeth Lewis, Jay Groudle and Brett Groudle of Charlotte. His surviving siblings include his two sisters, Barbara Davis and her husband Tom of Mount Pleasant, S.C. and Karen DeWeese and her husband Stan of Chardon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would also like to give special thanks to Dr. Daniel Carrizosa and the staff at the Levine Cancer Institute in Ballantyne and Hospice of Greater Charlotte for their care and compassion.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 23 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1623 Carmel Rd., Charlotte, N.C.
The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Jim's memory be made to the Lustgarten Foundation for pancreatic cancer research (www.lustgarten.org) or Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204 (www.donatehospice.org).
