Col. John Patrick McQuaid, 84, a longtime North Palm Beach, Fla., resident, passed away Nov. 18, 2012, at Hospice in West Palm Beach, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Mabel McQuaid; his wife of 47 years, Ann; and sisters, Agnes Hicks, Patricia Klein and Margaret Solomon.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathy (John) Wallace; beloved granddaughter, Allison; son, John Jr.; and sister, Rosemary Sherman.
Raised in Painesville and Mentor, John graduated from Ohio State University in 1953, and was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He was a devoted Buckeye's fan, who was rarely seen without his OSU cap.
Mr. McQuaid worked at Pratt & Whitney for 35 years, and upon his retirement in 1992, was awarded as a symbol of dedication and loyalty the Ironman Award.
After retirement, he enjoyed being an escort services volunteer at the VA, taking photos of his cat, Starie, and watching his granddaughter grow into a beautiful young lady.
Special thanks to all who made his final days so peaceful. Mr McQuaid will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
A private family service is planned.
