Michael F. Pocza Obituary
Michael F. Pocza Jr., 84 of Painesville, passed away Friday, July 25, 2014.
He was born in Painesville, the son of Michael F. and Betty (Kosey) Pocza, Sr.
Shortly after graduating from Harvey High School he married Margaret Kanocz on July 30, 1948. Next week would have been their sixty-sixth wedding anniversary.
Mike worked twenty-seven years at Diamond Shamrock and eighteen years at Lonza from which he retired in 1994.
Mike was very athletic and relished camping, hunting and fishing with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. A man of many hobbies, he enjoyed hiking, biking, skiing and canoe racing. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Painesville, Fairport Harbor Hungarian Culture Club, Elks Club # 549, where he played bocci and Senior Olympics. Being an amateur winemaker he loved to help bottle wine at Laurello's Winery. His recent claim to fame was his infallible knowledge of the capital cities of all the US states and countries in Europe.
Mike will be remembered for his work ethic and his ability to tell a good joke, but most importantly for his love of friends and family. He will be dearly missed by those who he loved and those who returned his love to him.
Mike is survived by his children, Thomas (Bonnie) Pocza of Ashtabula; daughter, Brandy (Dennis) Boncha of Perry; grandchildren, Lisa (Conrad) Toutant Snover, Karyne Toutant, Julie (Carl) Boncha, Michael (Jen) Pocza, and Amanda (Judd) Fell; great-grandchildren, Kya, Kane, Austin, Caylee, Cruz Michael, and Ashlynn; great-great-grandson, Milo; and his sister, Charlotte (Robert) Rusnak of Perry.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret M. Pocza on Sept. 9, 2013; and his parents.
At his request, private services will be held by the family at a later date.
If desired, contributions in his name may be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio, 44004.
Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula is in charge of arrangements.
