Russell Lee Scott, 78, of Painesville, formerly of Mentor, passed away May 1, 2013, at home.

He was born May 3, 1934, in Clendenin, W.Va., to William and Eula Scott.
Russell served his country in the Korean War as a paratrooper, U.S. Army, 11th Airborne, 2nd Battalion, 187 Regimental Combat Team. He was awarded two Campaign Bronze Stars for combat jumps and also The Combat Infantryman's Badge.
He was retired from Caterpillar in 1989.
A musician, he loved playing country and western guitar. He enjoyed and suffered his Cleveland sports teams.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Glada (Dent); children, Donna (Marc) Matthis of Willoughby, Darlene (Ron) Carroll and David (Donna) Scott, both of Painesville Township; grandchildren, Dane (Laura) Carroll, Brandon (Stephanie) Carroll, Kaylee (Courtney) Carroll, Taylor Carroll, Shane and Sean Scott; great-grandchildren, Landon Carroll and Hailey Carroll; and sister, Beatrice Barnhart of Charleston, W.Va.
Russell is preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Patty Garrett and Carol Hodson.
A memorial service with military honors will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013,
at Painesville Church of the Nazarene, 6235 Chestnut St. in Painesville. Pastor Brian Forney will officiate.
The family invites friends to join them for brunch at the church after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Family Fund of the Ronald McDonald house of Cleveland.
