1928 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
Stanley Allenby passed away peacefully, Jan. 22, 2013, in Chardon, surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 8, 1928, he was 84 years old.
He was an employee of TRW for more than 25 years. He later founded Ordnance Technology Service Inc., of Mentor, and continued working there with his son, Jeff, who later took over the business.
Stan lived in Lyndhurst as a child before moving to Santa Monica, Calif., during high school. He attended Brush High School and Santa Monica High School, playing trumpet in the school band, and was a member of the UCLA marching band when he was at Santa Monica High School during World War II. While in the Army, he played in ""It's All Yours"" the U.S. Army band that succeeded the Glen Miller Orchestra that toured Europe after World War II. He attended Santa Monica Community College and UCLA.
Stan enjoyed playing golf and was a caddy at Acacia Country Club as a youth. He was involved in dance clubs, South Euclid Kiwanis Club, Chardon Kiwanis Club, Johnnycake Ridge Singers, a barbershop group.
He was a dedicated husband and was preceded in death by Marilyn Martin Allenby, to whom he was married for 56 years. He was the dedicated caregiver to Marilyn in her extended illness. They met when he returned to Cleveland to visit family and friends during a summer break from college.
Stan and Marilyn raised their family in South Euclid. He was a loving father and grandfather, who enjoyed watching sports, theater and other special events of his children and grandchildren.
Stan and Marilyn enjoyed visiting Rehoboth Beach, Del., where they had a cottage for 20 years.
He had many friends and relatives in the area and was known for his love, gentleness, hospitality and infectious sense of humor. Stan will be missed!
He is survived by his children, Steven (Nancy) Allenby of New London, N.H., Greg (Patricia) Allenby of Worthington, Karen (Paul) Arnold of Mt. Vernon, and Jeff (Kerry) Allenby of Chardon; grandchildren, Brian (Sarah) Allenby of Cumberland, Maine, Scott (Lindsey) Allenby of Andover, N.H., Jeffrey (Ashley) Allenby of Annapolis, Md., Kate (Andres) Macia of LaHonda, Calif., Mark Allenby of Worthington, Julie Arnold of Beachwood, Christine Arnold of Hong Kong, Nathaniel Arnold of Mt. Vernon, James, Jenny and Jill Allenby of Chardon; and great-grandchildren, Camden and Micah Allenby of Andover, N.H., and Mylah Allenby of Cumberland, Maine.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Chardon United Methodist Church, 515 North St., Chardon Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the church.
