Angelo Cicconetti Obituary

Angelo A. Cicconetti, 83, passed away peacefully June 11, 2011, at TriPoint Hospital in Concord Township, Ohio.
Angelo was born August 22, 1927, in Painesville, Ohio, living in the city until moving to Painesville Township in 1962, where he resided until his death.
Together with his wife Jackie, they loved being with their children, grandchildren and recently-born great-grandchildren above all else in their lives.
Angelo breathed politics; campaigned and supported every local, county and state Democratic candidate, while also performing his civic duty as Precinct Committeeman for decades. His political highlight was being among those to meet John F. Kennedy at Hellriegels Inn during the 1960 Presidential campaign.
Upon graduation from Harvey High School in 1946, Angelo volunteered and joined the U.S. Air Force where he served as a Radio Mechanic in the Air Rescue Unit.
Angelo's employment career began as service manager at the Hudson and Studebaker Auto Agencies until 1952 when he began his employment at Diamond Alkali (Painter & Riggers) where he served as a Steward and on the Executive Committee of the labor union until the plant closure in 1976.
Following the closure of Diamond Alkali, Angelo was fortunate to merge his love of animals with his professional life when he became the Lake County Dog Warden from 1976-1991, and also served as V.P. of the Ohio Dog Warden's Association.
Angelo was appointed Painesville Township Trustee in 1997 and ran unopposed for three subsequent 4-year terms of office; intending to retire at the end of this year.
Angelo's love for his hometown and community was exemplified by his active participation as a Board Member of the American Red Cross, and Diamond Alkali Credit Union, Trustee of the Diamond Alkali Recreation Assoc., 30 year volunteer for United Way and Heart Fund campaigns, and Boy Scout Troop 64 (St. Mary's) Committee.
Angelo loved baseball and was a great fan of the Cleveland Indians. He was always a proud fan of his grandkids who played T-Ball, Little League, travel ball and high school ball. His true passion was the game of softball where he played in The Men's Softball League and later managed his daughters' Ponytail teams for 6 years. He later enjoyed attending and cheering on his granddaughter's games at Recreation Park.
He thoroughly enjoyed competition and arranged his summer nights around his bocce league at Hellriegels.
Angelo also enjoyed rabbit and pheasant hunting with family and friends and never passed up the opportunity to go perch fishing on Lake Erie and had great memories and success with his deep-sea fishing in Alaska.
Through the years he was a member of Knights of Columbus #947, Elks Lodge #549 and American Legion #336.
Angelo chaired and organized many of Harvey High School's Class of 1946 past reunions and was currently planning their 65th reunion scheduled for July of this year.
Angelo loved to travel this country, and especially enjoyed his excursions to Alaska, Florida, Arizona and Hawaii.
Angelo is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jacqueline (Coyne); son Michael (Kelly) Cicconetti; and grandsons Sam and Vinny Cicconetti of Concord Township; grandson Gabe (Stephanie) Cicconetti; and great-grandson Adrian Cicconetti of Painesville Township; grandson Mario Cicconetti of Grundy, Va.; granddaughter Nicole (Steve) Smith; and great-granddaughter Gianna Smith of Lyndhurst; daughter Marie (Dennis) Jarc of Surprise, Ariz.; daughter Sheila Cicconetti of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; daughter Sue (Dennis) Crews of Concord Township; and granddaughters, Hannah Crews of Perry and Kelly Crews (fiance Jim) of Philadelphia, Pa.; daughter Linda (Joe) Elliott of Leroy Township; and grandsons Anthony (fiancee Sarah) Falcone of Leroy Township, Justin (fiance Nichole) Falcone of Thompson and Vito Falcone of Painesville; daughter Loretta (Barry) Tenkku of Perry Township; grandsons Tyler (fiancee Kelley) Tenkku of Irwin, Pa., and Evan Tenkku of Painesville; son Angelo (Debbe) Cicconetti; granddaughters Julia and Sophia Cicconetti of Painesville Township; daughter Andrea (Jeff) Booth; grandsons Trapper (Felicia) MacKnight and Bailey MacKnight (Melissa Dennison) of Painesville; daughter Gina Cicconetti and grandson Brian Lubinsky of Willowick; sister Philomena (Norris) Wheeler; sister-in-law Sister Reean Coyne SND; and 17 nieces and nephews.
Angelo was preceded in death by his parents Antonio ""Tony"" and Grace (Monda) Cicconetti; brother Ralph (Angela) Cicconetti; sister Carmella (Earl) Gill; and nephew Anthony Cicconetti.
Angelo's farewell will take place at St. Mary's Church in Painesville, Ohio, his religious home for all of his 83 years. St. Mary's is where he was baptized, attended elementary school, received First Communion and Confirmation (as did all 9 of his children). He was also married to Jackie there and served as an usher for many years.
Friends and Family are invited for a final viewing on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. with the Funeral Mass to follow on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.; both to take place at St. Mary's Church.
The family suggests any contributions be made to St. Mary's Church, 242 N. State St., Painesville, OH 44077 or Lake Co. Dog Shelter, 2600 N. Ridge Road, Painesville, OH 44077.

Not sure what to say?

The memories I have of Mr. Cicconetti will last a lifetime. Working outside with him in his garden, and trying to find a tomato worm - whoever found the first worm would get a nickel. Seeing Mr. "C" on the front porch passing out Halloween candy and loading up the station wagon for a trip to the ice cream store (I could go on). I am so sorry for your loss and my prayers are with you.

As a child I lived in house on North State St. The Cicconetti family lived on Payne ave and as it turns out our two back yards butted up. My sister Pat and I spent many hours playing and visiting the family. We all grew up together knowing sharing our lives with one another. Angelo was one who always had time for his friends. He was a pleasure to be around. As we grew older our friendship never faded. He always knew you and always had time to talk. He was a true North End Painesville man. I was proud to know him and to love his smile. He and his wife Jackie were neighbors in Painesville Township . And yes Loretta babysat our son. Angelo has been in and out of my life as long as I can remember. I will never forget him. Angelo did it all he served his country he served people his family and God . He was man who you were so proud to know. My prayers are with the family. God bless and keep you safe in His love. Angelo we will meet again . Dear God almighty hold him close for he has come home to live with you.

Jackie and the Cicconetti Family:

We were sorry to here of Angelo's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the enite family. I will never forget Angelo taking me aside when I first came to Lake County as the the Director of the ADAMHS Board. His wisdom, advise and character were valuable informtion that rode me a long way. But most of all I will remembe how dedicated he was to his family first and all of Lake County. Some of the stories that you Jackie would tell about Ang would always lighten the atmosphere in our office.

He was truly an icon of a husband, father, grand parent and humanitarian who was concerned about bettering the life of Lake Countians.
