Charles Eveland Obituary

Charles L. Eveland (February 6th 1927 - February 17th 2013) age 86. Beloved husband of 68 years to Jean (Mountford) Eveland; loving father to Diane Walling (deceased) (husband Donovan); and Joanne Christianson (husband Charles); caring grandfather of Katy, Donovan David and Alexander; great-grandfather of Ethan and Phoebe; brother of David and Glenn; son of Charles and Glenna (deceased).
Charles was a graduate of Euclid Central High School in 1945 and holds a B.S. degree from the University of Maryland, a Master's degree from Baylor University and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
He completed a distinguished 30-year career as Colonel in the Medical Service of the U.S. Army, including tours of duty in Germany at the end of WWII and played a key role in the evacuation of troops from the Chosin Reservoir in Korea during the heat of that conflict. He was awarded the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star among other decorations.
After leaving the Army he became Director of the Baylor Graduate Program in Health Administration, he later became the founding Director and Professor of a similar program at Arizona State University and at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, Mexico. His achievements resulted in induction into the US Army Infantry Hall of Fame, Beta Gamma Sigma, City of Euclid School's Distinguished Achievement Hall of Fame and ASU's Faculty Hall of Fame as Professor Emeritus. He also served as Executive Director of Alaska's Medicaid Rate Commission, as consultant to the Bureau of Indian Affairs and as a member of a blue ribbon committee for the White House National Productivity Commission, studying health costs.
Charles was an accomplished musician, writing and playing a wide variety of music, including his favorite Jazz from years past and did so every Friday night for the community in which he lived for many years, including this past January prior to a brief illness.
There will be a private service aboard ship out of Dana Point Harbor on March 27th.

I was very sadened to hear of my uncle's passing. He was always a very charming and kind person with great lifetime accomplishments. It was nice spending time with him the last time I saw him during Thanksgiving of 2010. Rest In Peace Uncle Charles.
