Mass of Christian Burial for Donald Francis Ischay, 81, of Willoughby, will be 12 noon Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 37932 Euclid Ave, Willoughby. Burial will follow with military honors at All Souls Cemetery.
Mr. Ischay passed away March 21, 2014, at home surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was born March 30, 1932, in Cleveland and grew up in Euclid.
Don was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He was a resident of Willoughby and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church since 1968, after moving from Mentor-on-the-Lake. An Operations Foreman at Lubrizol for over 37 years, where he also was a member of the Old Timers Club, he enjoyed gardening, traveling, Jeopardy, and was an avid Civil War historian. He always had a good joke to tell, enjoyed a good BBQ with his family, and loved spending time with his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Cathy (nee Ellensohn); children, Kevin (Lynn) of Noblesville, Ind.; Cathy (Bob) Treat of Katy, Texas; Tim of Fla.; Eileen (Mark) Kordic of Eastlake; Chris of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Maureen Ischay (Dave Sontag) of Cleveland Heights; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Lorelei; and many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, George and Wilhelmina (nee Stamm) Ischay; brothers, Harry, Harold, and Kenneth; and sisters, Eileen, Wilma, Dolores and their spouses.
Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Don from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at Brickman Bros. Funeral Home, 37433 Euclid Ave., in Willoughby, with a Rosary starting at 7:00 p.m.
