Dorothy Catherine Bauer Briggs Obituary
Dorothy Catherine Bauer Briggs, 95, of Chardon, Ohio, passed away on August 5, 2014.
She was born in Butler, PA, to the late Harry Elmer Bauer and Grace Lucetta Maharg Bauer. She had a younger sister Esther and a younger brother Donald, both of whom pre-deceased her.
Mrs. Briggs had a long teaching career that began in a one-room schoolhouse in Penn Township, PA. She taught mostly elementary grades, but her teaching included every grade from kindergarten to college. The majority of her career was in elementary education for the Youngstown, OH, Public Schools. After retiring, she taught mathematics classes at Youngstown State University.
Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, traveling, crossword puzzles and the stock market. She was an active volunteer at Boardman Methodist Church during the 40 years she lived in Youngstown.
Dorothy received her bachelor's degree in education from Slippery Rock College and her master's degree in education from Syracuse University.
She is survived by her three children: Lewis Briggs (Sue Ann) of Sayre, PA; Roger Briggs of Ephrata, WA; and Esther Neumann of Chardon. Mrs. Briggs was very proud of her three children, 14 grandchildren, and 20 great- grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-
in-law, Mae D. Bauer, and a niece, Dr. Roberta Bauer Henkle of Hudson. Her other niece, Marilyn Bauer Evans, pre-deceased Dorothy.
Mrs. Briggs was a member of the Chardon United Methodist Church and enjoyed many years of activities at the Chardon Senior Center.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 9 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with the Funeral Service officiated by Rev. Dan Drew to follow at 11:00 a.m. all to be held at the Chardon United Methodist
Church, 515 North Street, Chardon, Ohio 44024. A private burial will be held at the Butler County Memorial Park in Butler, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Chardon United Methodist Church (address above) or the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Chardon, OH 44024.
