Elaine (Ramkey) Maki Obituary
Elaine Ramkey Maki 92, formerly of Cleveland, Mayfield Heights, and Parma, OH, was called to her eternal home January 1, 2018 in Naples FL.
She was born August 10, 1925, in Bradford, PA, to Claude and Esther (Polzin) Ramkey, but grew up in Cleveland, OH. where she graduated from John Hay High School. In 1946, she married Edward N. Maki (Huhtamaki) of Bovey, MN. her beloved husband of 61 years.
She was a Certified Professional Secretary, having worked for 38 years for Arthur G. McKee & Co. in Cleveland, before retiring to Naples, FL. in 1984. While at McKee, she became proficient in the Spanish language so that she could better serve the company's clients in Mexico. She became a Certified Professional Secretary in 1976, and was a member of International Association of Administrative Professionals and Executive Women International. After moving to Florida, she worked at Eagle Creek Country Club as an executive secretary and then at H & R Block as a tax preparer. She was named Secretary of the Year in Naples in 1988.
Elaine was involved in church life for most of her life, as she was influenced by her grandfather, a Lutheran pastor. In the Cleveland area, she and her husband were members of St. Paul Lutheran, and Our Savior Lutheran. In Naples, she was active at Messiah Lutheran Church, where she served on the altar guild, was a member of Women of Faith, served as secretary of the Church Council, and where she helped to sponsor many activities of Lutheran Brotherhood and Aid Association for Lutherans (now Thrivent). She and her friends in those organizations raised money and helped many of Collier County residents who were in need. She was also responsible for planning and organizing the annual Messiah Craft Bazaar, which was one of the first of its kind in Naples. She served as President of the Ft. Myers/SW Florida Zone of Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) for several years and attended many of the state and international conventions of that group. She sang tenor in the church choir and could be found in the church kitchen whenever there was a function at the church.
In Naples, Elaine was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 7721 in Golden Gate, a member of the Golden Gate AARP, and she served on the board of Christ Community Lutheran School.
Through the years, she touched many lives and made many friends, who became endeared to her because she never failed to leave them with her signature phrase, "Have a blessed day!"
The family wishes to thank Claudia Tracy, for the many years she was always there for Elaine. Claudia was not only her friend, but the daughter she never had.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers and sisters and many friends. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and their extended families.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather for a funeral service 11:00 AM Saturday January 13, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2154 SOM Center Rd. Mayfield Hts. OH. 44124, with Internment at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, 11521 Chillicothe Road, Chesterland, OH.
A Memorial Service will be held for Florida friends at Faith Lutheran Church, 4150 Goodlette Road, Naples, FL, on January 26th, at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, Elaine would have requested that you make memorials in her name to Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, Minot, ND; Lutheran Hour Ministries, St. Louis, MO; or to .
