Obituary Condolences

Emily B. Kern (nee Furlan), 85, of Euclid, passed away July 30, 2013, in Wickliffe. She was born Oct. 31, 1927, in Cleveland.
Emily was a devoted member of St. John of the Cross Parish for 30 years. God and her faith were the center of her life. She was a resident of Euclid after moving from Cleveland 50 years ago.
In addition to working as the head laundress at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home, Emily enjoyed crocheting, dancing to waltzes and polkas, and reading novels. She also enjoyed taking walks, cooking, baking, solving puzzles and listening to Polka music. Emily will be remembered as a sweet, faithful and loving mother who valued her family above all else.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William J.; son, William (Annie) of University Heights; daughters, Carolann (Mark) Harkey of Euclid and Mary (John) Nykiel of Euclid; grandchildren, Kristen and Laura Harkey, Kelly and Rachel Kern, Michelle and Janeene Bensi and Johnny and Kathleen Nykiel. She was also the dear aunt and great-aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Emily was preceded in death by parents, Leopold and Anna (nee Prijatel) Furlan; brothers, Leo, Adolph, Albin, Joseph and Francis Furlan; and sisters, Ann Winter and Maria and Elsie Furlan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, 140 Richmond Road, Euclid. Fr. Tom Dragga will officiate. Burial will follow at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Township.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday to pay tribute to and celebrate the Emily's life at DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home of Willoughby Hills, 28890 Chardon Road (between Bishop Road and Route 91).
Family suggests contributions may be made in Emily's memory to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110.
