Frank Domokos Obituary
Frank was born Oct. 12, 1929, in Sharon, Pa.
Frank was a loving husband of 55 years to Jeannette"Jan" (Shain); a wonderful father to Denise (Domokos) Mayernik of Willoughby, Julie Domokos of Mentor and Shellee (Kent) Eudy of The Woodlands, Texas; cherished grandpa to Karissa and Sami Eudy; and beloved uncle to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
He was son of the late Moses and Gizella Domokos; brother of the late Della (William) Markuzic, Louis (Mae) Domokos and Alex (Earlene) Domokos. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Sam and Freda Shain, Marian Shain, Florence (Alex) Verdova.
He attended Morris Harvey College (now the University of Charleston) and received a B.S. in education. Frank played tackle on the 1950 Tangerine Bowl Championship team and later was inducted into the Morris Harvey College Sports Hall of Fame.
He was drafted into the NFL in 1951, by the Cleveland Rams, but the same year was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War. He received his master's degree at West Virginia University, and received his principal's certificate at Cleveland State University.
He began his coaching and teaching career in 1954, in the Massillon School System, where he coached a variety of sports at the junior high and high school level. He accepted his first head football coaching position at West Geauga in 1964. He also served as head wrestling and head baseball coach there for five years. His 1968, football team was the first undefeated team in the school's history.
Mr. Domokos started working at Mentor High School in 1969. During his career at Mentor, he held the positions of head football coach, assistant wrestling coach, Dean of Students, Unit Principal and Athletic Director. He led the 1976 football team to the conference championship. He was also selected to coach the Lions Club Save-a-Sight game twice during his tenure at Mentor.
He was an active member and officer of various professional organizations throughout his successful career, including President of the Northeastern Ohio Athletic Directors Association. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Frank was a frequent blood donor. He dearly loved his family, friends, students, athletes, working out, and his golf game.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
Funeral Mass will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank's memory to the Willoughby West End YMCA, c/o Bob Hoffman, 37100 Euclid Ave., Willoughby, OH 44094, or to Laketran, P.O. Box 158, Grand River, OH 44045. These organizations served Frank well during his later years.

Even though it’s been 9+ years since Frank died, I was thinking about him and looked him up. He was a great guy. I remember the way he would signal us that it was time to leave on Monday nights at Pleasant Hill Golf Course by vacuuming... Rest In Peace Frank.

My deepest sympathy to you, Jan, and the girls. I first met Frank when I was a new teacher at Mentor High School many years ago. He was always "bigger than life". He touched so many lives both as a coach ,as a principal and as athletic director. Being a proud member of the Mentor football family for many years myself, I always admired your dedication to the school. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time. I was so sorry to hear of "Coach's" passing. I guess the Lord works in strange ways as He made it possible for me to accidently run into Coach D last month while visiting a co-worker. I was able to spend some quality time with him, not knowing it would be the last. I will treasure that time always, as well as all the great memories I have from high school.

Frank was a "man" that would always gab your attention when you first met him. You watched the way young men who would hang on to his everyword as he gave them the secret path to be a winner. Coach,was the best! He and Mrs. Domokos took care of all of there players really well. I really loved playing for him. He new the game and he was always there if you needed some one to talk to. He was a great person for Mentor and he loved that School and still does! I will never forget his pre-game and half time talks, you just wanted to go out and run thru a wall for him. He is the best. I give my best to Mrs. Domokos, Denise, Julie, Shellee.

As a 1983 Mentor Graduate, I have soo many fond memories of Mr. Domokos. As a former Cheerleader & softball player, he treated me soo well as a student and athelete. This was all in the middle of majoy dental work and braces as a teenager, dental appointments in the midst of class tests. He was a kind person understanding my clinical need and helping me to balance school work with the demands of dentists and teachers. Looking back, after 28 years, he was very progressive as a Principle and soo very understanding and compassionate during a very conservative time. BTW, he also helped me recover an ankle I sprained during a football game. I never forgot those exercises because he took in interest in me and my recovery. I share those excercises with those in need to this day. - - - - I have soo many 'lessons learned' from Mr. Domokos, I would like to say to him, 'Thank you soo much for caring about us and sharing your wisdom!!!!
