Gary L. Swontek, 64, of Huntsburg Township, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, due to injuries from an automobile accident.
He was born June 2, 1949, in Chardon, son of Stanley A. and Jeanette I. (Thurling) Swontek.
Mr. Swontek graduated from Cardinal High School in 1967, and married Bonnie Baptie on Oct. 24, 1970.
A lifelong resident of the area, he was a heavy equipment operator for the City of Akron for 30 years, retiring in 2004 at the age of 55. He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and traveling. He was famous for his mystery meals and loved being with his friends and family, who will miss him and cherish his memories.
His survivors are his wife of 42 years, Bonnie; three children, Jennifer Swontek of Cave Creek, Ariz., Jon Swontek of Parkman, and Stefanie (Matt) Romagni of Russell; six grandchildren, Alec, Brooke, and JR Swontek, Paul Swontek, and Mario and Veronica Romagni; two sisters, Joyce Blair of Burton and Judy (Art) Joles of Painesville; his loving in-laws; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Swontek in 1998, and Jeanette Swontek in 2012.
Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at Russell Funeral Service, 15670 West High St. (Route 87), Middlefield.
A gathering of friends and family will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
