1926 - 2014 |
Grace Henke, 87, passed away peacefully Feb. 14, 2014.
Born Oct. 26, 1926, in Lithuania, she came to the U.S. in her mid-20s, where close friends took her in, helped her find a job and got her acclimated to her new life in a new country.
Before leaving for the U.S., Grace met George Henke in Germany at Bellevue at a dance where they fell in love with each other. A year later, George arrived in the U.S. to be with Grace.
They were married in Waterbury, Conn., and eventually made Highland Heights their home, where they worked together in their bakery businesses. Grace proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1963.
Grace enjoyed gardening and all the wildlife her flowers brought to her. She also enjoyed traveling with her family.
Grace's husband George passed away in July of last year. Being truly in love and happily married for 61 years, we would like to think that the love between George and Grace was so strong that George called Grace to him on Valentine's Day 2014 to make heaven even sweeter.
Grace was an extremely devoted wife to her late husband, George; a loving and caring mother to her son, Harry (Vivian) Henke of Concord; a proud and loving grandmother to her granddaughter, Ashley Henke of Concord; and Grace was able to share touching moments holding and feeding her great-grandson, Hunter.
We will all miss her constant smiles, her happy attitude and the love she had for everyone.
Grace will make her final resting place alongside her husband, George at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
