James H. Furr, age 84, formerly of Thompson, passed away, Saturday, March 17, 2012, in Marianna, Fla.

He was born March 16, 1928, in Elkins, W.Va., to Hale and Ethel Furr.
He was married Jan. 12, 1950, to Mildred Clarice Furr in Richwood, W.Va.
Jim was a coal miner in West Virginia until moving to Thompson in the 1950s, where he worked at National Acme of Cleveland and retired from there. He then worked as a janitor at Thompson-Ledgemont School System for 10 years.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II, was a member in good standing in both V.F.W. and American Legion and was a past president of Geauga County Little League.
He is survived by his three sons, Michael (Pam) of Columbus, Andrew (Marsha) of Marianna, Fla., and Joel Dean of Painesville; grandchildren, James and Molly and Sarah (Mike) Higgins; and one great-grandchild, Connor James.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Clarice; parents, Hale and Ethel Furr; brother, Arthur Furr; son, Patrick Jan; grandson, Grant Furr; and granddaughter, Kelly Ann Furr.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2012, at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison.
Funeral services will be noon, Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the funeral home. Final resting place will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Thompson.
