1925 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
Funeral Mass for John D. Oshaben, 88, of Mentor, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 9114 Lakeshore Blvd., Mentor. The Rev. Tim Plavic will officiate. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
Mr. Oshaben passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Heartland of Mentor.
Born March 23, 1925, in Krayn, Pa., he had been a Lake County resident, living in Mentor for the past 17 years. He was a previous resident of Cleveland and Euclid.
Mr. Oshaben was a member of St. Bede the Venerable Church in Mentor, a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, a member of American Legion Post 888, SNPJ Lodge 158, American Slovenian Club of Fairport Harbor and Keystoners Social Club. He enjoyed golf, especially golfing at the Blackbrook Golf Course. He also loved fishing, bowling and bocce ball.
He was the loving father of Daniel J. (Anita) Oshaben of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; father-in-law of Teresa M. Oshaben; cherished grandfather of Matthew, Josephine, Jonathan and Mitchell; great-grandfather of Ania; brother of Leona (George) Liskai, Richard (Rose Marie) Oshaben, Jacob Oshaben, Frank (Darlene) Oshaben and Nancy (John) Vasilko; and uncle of many.
John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Stella R. (Pomersky) Oshaben in 2007; son, Russell J. Oshaben; parents, Daniel and Angeline (Ocepek) Oshaben; and sister, Mildred White.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), Mentor.
