John ""Roy"" Yeckley, 84, a U.S. Navy veteran, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Lake Health West Medical Center in Willoughby.
Born May 21, 1929, in Patton, Pa., he had grown up in East Cleveland, and had most recently lived in Mentor for more than 10 years.
Mr. Yeckley was employed at several local steel companies throughout his career. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and his grandchildren.
Survivors are his wife, Elizabeth ""Pat"" Yeckley; daughters, Diane (Sam) Sharp, Patty (Adam) Goodrich, Connie Hathaway and Gail (Craig) VanDeList; sons, John (Judy) St. James and Brian (Jodie) Yeckley; grandchildren, Chris and Courtney St. James, Michele Sanchez, Dana Sharp, Margot Hughes, Kelly Sharp and John Hughes; and great-grandchildren, Santino, Lazaro, Nathan, Chloe, Troy, Kayla and Michael. He is also survived by his sister, Lorraine Longo; sisters-in-law, Marion Yeckley, Mary Yeckley and Catherine (Tom) Weimer; and brothers-in-law, Bill Good, Bob (Rita) Good and Ed (Nancy) Good.
Mr. Yeckley was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip (""Duke"") and Dorothea Yeckley; great-grandson, Breydon Santon; brothers and WWII veterans, Bill Yeckley (Marine), Ralph Yeckley (Army) and Wendel (Ching) Yeckley (Air Force); sisters, Gladys, Phyllis and Hazel; and brothers-in-law, Marty, Dave and Chuck Good.
Funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor. Interment will be at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
