Kathleen Brinkley Plaitano of Mentor for the past 22 years, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at home after 45 months of fighting to beat malignant melanoma. Kay was with her beloved family at the time of her death.
Kay was born April 25, 1942, at home in Greensburg, Pa., to Mary (nee Salomone) and Charles Mahoney, who are both now deceased.
Kay graduated from North High School, Class of 1960. She was a district manager of merchandising for Revlon, where she was employed for 35 years, until the time of her death.
Kay loved her beautiful garden, Broadway plays, crossword puzzles, travel, spectator sports and most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and treating them to Malley's and movies.
Kathleen's survivors include her husband of three years, Tommy Plaitano; children, Robert Brinkley of Mentor, Lori Ann Brinkley of Knoxville, Tenn., and Patricia (Jay) Zolcak of Mentor; stepson, Tommy (Diane) Plaitano Jr. of Greensburg Pa.; grandchildren, Nicole, Kaylee, Alex, Emily, Sam, Katie, Casey, Matthew, Molly, Enzo, Valentino and Gianna, sister, Pat Mahoney of Mentor; brothers, Edward (Mary) Salamone of Fresno California and Dr. John (Karen) Salamone of Willoughby; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her infant son, Edward Paul Brinkley; mother, Mary Salamone; very special father, Edward Salamone; and father, Charles Mahoney.
A special thank you to her sister, Pat Mahoney and Marley, Kay's best canine buddy for the time spent caring for Kay during her illness.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church, 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Road, Mentor.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor. Interment will be in Mentor Cemetery in Mentor.
