Leo Olavi Nurmi, 91, passed away Jan. 11, 2014.
He was born June 10, 1922, in Hyvinkaa, Finland, to Klaara and Nestori Nurmi, both deceased.
Leo was a life member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Masons 32 and longtime member of American Legion Post 343. He was proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
A self-employed businessman, Leo had a great love for golf and bowling. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be dearly missed.
Leo is survived by his wife of 69 years, Shirley Nurmi; children, Linda (James) Treeger, Eric Nurmi, Sandra Zubek and Shirleen (James) Laubenthal; grandchildren, Scott (Lyn) Treeger, Todd (Lauren) Treeger, Brett Zubek, Lisa Zubek, Connor Laubenthal and Sean Laubenthal; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at the Monreal Funeral Home, 35400 Curtis Blvd., Eastlake. A Celebration of Life and Masonic services will immediately follow at the funeral home.
The family requests that any donations be made in Leo's honor to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Hospice of the Western Reserve, or a .
