Mr. Pogany passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at Heather Hill in Munson Township.
Born June 17, 1929, in Kirtland Township, he had been a lifelong Kirtland resident.
He had been a member of the National Guard.
Mr. Pogany was a retired electrician for Nerts in Willoughby Hills. Prior to that, he had worked at Reliance Electric.
Lorant loved spending time outside in his garden. He also enjoyed target-shooting with his brothers, country music and matching wits with the squirrels over the birdfeeder. He was blessed with the handiness gene, building his own house and fixing anything that was broken. Things that might have been found in his hands at any time: power tools, bread dough (he loved to cook), a dachshund, a beagle or a movie camera. Whenever there was time to swim, he was the first one in the water. Since he first learned to drive at the age of 10, he was behind the wheel of any and every vehicle and always insisted on being the driver. He was a loving and patient family man: husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors are his wife of 62 years, Caroline E. (Schupp) Pogany; children, Sam (Judith) Pogany of Mayfield Village, Laurel (Robert) Bondi of Leawood, Kansas, Caroline Pogany of Whitehall, Mich., Mary Pogany of Madison and Patricia Pogany of Willoughby; grandchildren, Rebecca and Benjamin Pogany, Caroline Marie and Robert Bondi, and James Pogany; brother, John Pogany of Willoughby Hills; and sisters, Cynthia Pogany of Willoughby, Cornelia Baker of Mentor, and Penelope (William) Moore of Columbus. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and their families.
Lorant was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Pogany. His parents, John and Mary (Fodor) Pogany; and brothers, Robert and Martin Pogany are also deceased.
Inurnment will be at a later date.
The family wishes to thank Heather Hill and Dr. Razmjouei for keeping Dad as active and healthy as possible during his illness.
Donations in Lorant's memory may be made to the Lake County Humane Society, 7564 Tyler Blvd., Suite E, Mentor, OH 44060.
