Martha J. Shipps, age 81, of Windsor, passed away March 15, 2012, at Briar Hill Nursing Home in Middlefield.
She was born May 16, 1930, in Canton, to the late Otis and Ann (Bethel) Gillespie.
She taught music in the Cleveland City Schools, Cleveland Music Settlement, Lorain Institute of Music, and Cuyahoga Community College. She was a member of Musicians Local 4, and played with the Melting Pot, and several orchestras and Kara mu House in Cleveland.
She is survived by her cousins, Margaret Johnson, George Bethel, Dr. Kimberly (Henry Welch) Artis and Khalida Artis-Welch.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Toussaint Perry Shipps.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Evergreen Cemetery in Painesville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wheatt Foundation or
Condolences may be sent in care of Kimberly Artis M.D., 1932 Shenandoah Road, Toledo OH 43607.
Arrangements are being handled by Johnson Funeral Home of Painesville.
