Matilda Alto Obituary
Mrs. Alto died Feb. 8, 2011.
Born in Painesville Township, she had lived in Fairport Harbor since 1939.
She retired from Peoples Savings and Loan (now First Merit), after 23 years and was the assistant vice president and manager of the Fairport Harbor office.
She was a member of the Fairport Senior Center and the Fairport Historical Society. She enjoyed artwork and baking, especially Hungarian pastries, and traveling to visit her son and family in many third world countries.
Survivors are her son, Dr. William (Susan) Alto of Sidney, Maine; granddaughter, Dr. Letizia Alto (Michael Kaufman) of Seattle, Wash.; and grandson, William A. Alto II, also of Seattle, Wash. Other survivors include nephews, Robert Alto of Massillon and William Szoka of Bruce Pine, N.C.; and nieces, Judy (Jim) Borger of Richwood, Texas, and Roberta Ronda from Durango, Colo.
Her husband, William O. Alto; daughter, Elizabeth Susan Alto; parents, Frank and Elizabeth Szoka; brothers, Frank and William Szoka; sisters, Mary Fantt and Helen Alto; and nephew, Frank Szoka (Carol), are deceased.
Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Painesville.
In lieu of flowers, please send your donation in her name to St. Anthony's Church or the Fairport Senior Center.

My first job was at Peoples. Matilda was a great mentor and taught me a lot about the banking business. She was very kind to me and I enjoyed working with her.

So sorry for your loss. Mrs. Alto helped me open my first savings account and helped to teach me many lessons that have helped me through my life. She was a great lady.

Mrs. Alto was the contact person at People's S&L when we applied for a mortgage on our first home. Her kindness and professional conduct made that special event all the more memorable. Sympathy to all her family and loved ones.
