Matthew J. ""Uncle Matt"" DeLuca, 79, of Willoughby and formerly of Euclid and Russell, passed away July 22, 2013, in Willoughby. He was born Sept. 10, 1933, in Cleveland.
A graduate of Holy Name High School, Matt loved hunting and fishing, gardening, traveling, golf and playing all sports. His family considered him to be good looking, loving and generous, a giving man who loved to give out his homemade sausage and hot peppers.
Matt was a U.S. Army veteran. He was also a retired secretary/treasurer for Laborers Union Local 860.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marlene (nee Raymond); and daughters, Suzanne DeLuca (husband, Mike McCostlin) of North Ridgeville and Diane (Mike) Helt of Willoughby Hills. He was Papa to grandchildren, Rachel Polensek, Matthew and Michael Helt, and Dan and Julie McCostlin. He is also survived by sister, Mena (Chick) Dolciato. He was brother-in-law of Warren and Anne Raymond; dear uncle of nine; great-uncle of 11; and friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Jean (nee Tarabosso); and sister, Loretta (John) Rizzo.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at The DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home of Willoughby Hills, 28890 Chardon Road (between Bishop Road and Route 91). Fr. Tom Weber and Pastor Michael LoPresti will officiate.
Burial with military honors will follow in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Township.
Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Matt from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
