Ralph W. McClintick, 89, of Painesville, passed away Feb. 12, 2014, at Kemper House in Mentor.
He was born July 21, 1924, in Willoughby.
Ralph grew up on Chardon Road in Willoughby Hills, and after high school joined the U.S. Army where he earned a marksmanship medal and contributed his services in a truck battalion during World War II.
After the war, he continued to work as a heavy equipment operator for the Horvitz Construction Company, as well as several other local companies for nearly 50 years. Ralph help build highways in Northeast Ohio that we drive on today. He was also a part time police officer in the 1960s with the Lake County Sheriff, and also in the 1970s with the Kirtland Hills Police Department.
Ralph was a "meat and potatoes" type of guy who loved the simple things in life. He enjoyed being around heavy equipment well after his retirement, doing things around the house and growing his tomato plants every year.
Survivors are his son, Gary McClintick; and granddaughter, Marie McClintick.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor McClintick; and son, Larry McClintick.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Monday at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until the time of the services.
Interment will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Whitehaven Memorial Park, 615 S.O.M. Center Road, Mayfield Village. Family and friends are invited to meet at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 10 a.m. Tuesday to drive in procession to the cemetery.
