Regina Tunquist Obituary

Regina Tunquist, 77, of Chardon, passed away on May 29, 2011, of acute myeloid leukemia.
Born in Pittston, Pa., the daughter of Joseph and Constance Bernatitus Kanavich.
She was a graduate of Marywood College (now University) in Scranton, Pa. She completed a dietetic internship at St. Mary's Hospital and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Upon completion of her internship, she came to Cleveland to work as a clinical dietitian at University Hospitals.
Regina married Robert W. Tunquist on April 19, 1958. She took a hiatus from her career to raise four children, then returned to work at Euclid Hospital as a clinical dietitian and certified diabetes educator.
She and her husband traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states, most of Canada, Europe, Turkey, Morocco, Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti.
She enjoyed listening to Placido Domingo's music and was an avid reader, a Cleveland Browns fan and a stickler for correct grammar usage.
Survivors are her children, Gary R. (Kathy) of Concord Township, Sue Clyburn of Surprise, Ariz., Eric E. of San Diego, Calif., Valerie J. Chiappone (Don) of Mentor; grandsons, Brandon and Mitchell Tunquist; brother ,Joseph Kanavich (Pat) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; sister-in-law, Joan Kanavich of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; many nieces and nephews; greatnieces and -nephews; and dear friend Erika Korbell of Euclid.
Regina was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 42 years; brother, Thomas; sister, Marion Rygiel; and aunts and uncles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 am Thursday, June 2, 2011, at St. Mary's Church, 401 North St., Chardon.
Family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. Burial will be at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chesterland.
