Robert J. McKenney, 85 of Nelson Township, Ohio died Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at his residence.
He was born on November 4, 1928 in Cleveland, son of Edward John and Florence G. (Griffin) McKenney.
He was a U.S. Navy WW II Veteran and a member of the American Legion, VFW in Erie, PA, and Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Robert owned U.S. Plastering in Cleveland, doing plaster work all over the U.S. and lived in this area 28 years.
He served on the Great Geauga County Fair Board as president for 4 years and director for 32 years.
He will be missed by his friends and family; his beloved companion Barb Genis of 28 years; his loving son and four daughters, Edward (Deborah) McKenney of Andover, Sherry (Mark) Pegritz of Huntsburg, Michele (David) Devlin of Warren, Cheryl Parsons of Erie, PA, and Lorna (Kirby) Ridgeway of Virginia; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Roy, Edward, Patrick; and two sisters, Betty and Arlene.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014 at Russell Funeral Service, 15670 West High St. (Rt. 87) in Middlefield. Military honors will follow at 6 p.m. The memorial mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Edward Catholic Church, 16150 Center St., Parkman, OH. A luncheon will follow at 10068 Bancroft Rd., Garrettsville, OH.
