Thomas York Ellis died surrounded by his family Dec. 9, 2012, after a two-year battle with leukemia.

He was born in Painesville to Florence (York) and Robert Ellis Sept. 1, 1933.
He attended Harvey High School and graduated from Western Reserve Academy. He continued his education at Cornell University where he earned a BA in economics and MBA and was a member of Alpha Delta Phi. He later became a member of Cornell chapter's Foundation.
After working for Arthur Anderson, he opened a CPA practice in Painesville, that later became Ellis and Associates, CPA's. He retired in 2006.
Mr. Ellis was a member of First Church, Congregational, where he held several positions. He was a member of Painesville Rotary International for more than 50 years. As a member, he led a Group Exchange Study to Argentina and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. He also served as assistant governor for Lake County. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.
For many years, he served as treasurer for Lake County Blue Coats and Money Bags Investment Club. He was on the board of Family Planning of Northeast Ohio and was a member of the Concord Financial Advisory Committee.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Suzanne (Schoedinger); sons, Robert of Mentor, Geoffrey (Katharine) of Boulder, Colo., Eric (Deidre) of Englewood, Colo.; grandsons, Ian, Colin and Miles; sister, Margaret "Peggy" (Earle) Drabenstott; sister-in-law, Sara Buchsieb of Columbus; and nephew, Daniel Buchsieb of Columbus.
Calling hours for Mr. Ellis will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Ave. (across from Lake Erie College), Painesville.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at First Church, Congregational. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
