Vern A. Battles, 91, of Mentor for the past 65 years, died Saturday Nov. 2, 2013, at Hospice House in Cleveland.
He was born April 19, 1922, in Willoughby.
Mr. Battles was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, where he served in the 362nd fighter squadron. He was an avid coin collector and member of Painesville Coin Club.
He was a retired mechanic from Lubrizol Corp. in Wickliffe.
Survivors include his daughter, Nancy (Philip) Staab of Mentor, son, James (Debra) Battles of Mentor; two grandchildren, Jennifer Aleman and Jonathan (Melissa) Perdue; and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding Vern in death is his wife, Josephine (Covaleski) Battles; and parents, Victor and Esther Battles.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave. in Mentor.
The family will receive friends Thursday 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Mentor Cemetery, Mentor.
